When to Apply Sunscreen in Your Skincare Routine

The importance of wearing a good broad-spectrum SPF sunscreen on a daily basis should not be underestimated. To prevent skin damage and signs of ageing, including a good SPF sunscreen as part of your morning skincare routine is the best way to keep your skin feeling healthy and looking young.

While applying sunscreen on your face daily is a step in the right direction, for it to be the most effective you need to know when to apply it during your daily 4-step skincare routine. Let’s check it out now!

When to Apply Sunscreen in Your Skincare Routine

An effective daily skincare routine should include cleansing, toning, moisturising, and protecting the skin a broad-spectrum SPF sunscreen of 30 or higher. Follow these four steps every morning (and night, minus the sunscreen) for beautiful, younger-looking skin!

1. Wash Your Face Morning and Night

The most fundamental skincare routine steps begin with using a gentle cleanser with nourishing ingredients to wash away dirt, pollutants, and oil that clog pores and cause signs of aging.

2. Use Toner to Remove Excess Dirt and Oil

Using a skin toner is a great way to remove any residual debris, refresh the skin, and balance pH after washing your face.

3. Apply SPF Sunscreen Every Morning

For maximum protection, you should apply sunscreen every morning before leaving the house as part of your daily skincare routine.

There are two types of sunscreens available, chemical and physical (aka mineral), which are applied differently. For example, if you’re using a chemical sunscreen, apply it before your moisturiser because it takes time to be fully absorbed into the skin.

If you’re using a physical sunscreen, you’re basically creating a barrier over your skin, so these products need to be applied after your moisturiser.

However, if you’re using a combination moisturiser + sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more, then you can just use this one product. But if your moisturiser has an SPF of less than 30, use a separate higher SPF sunscreen for proper protection.

 4. Use a Good Moisturiser

An important step for youthful-looking skin is rehydrating the skin every day as part of your morning and nighttime skincare routine with a high-quality moisturiser.
